LANCASTER, N.H. (AP) — From fun to frightful in seconds. State police in New Hampshire say up to 250 people were inside a circus tent when it collapsed Monday evening, killing two people and injuring 15 others. The collapse happened at the fairgrounds in Lancaster. Severe weather is likely a factor. A severe thunderstorm watch was in effect in the area.
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — The head of police in Memphis says a suspect wanted for the fatal shooting of a police officer apparently felt the walls closing in. Tremaine Wilbourn surrendered to federal authorities Monday and was accompanied by relatives. There had been an intense manhunt since Saturday night's shooting. Police say the slain officer walked up on a drug transaction.
CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — A man who was wounded in the Colorado theater shooting says he was pleased with the jury's decision to keep the death penalty as an option for gunman James Holmes. Joshua Nowlan says he believes that execution would be the right outcome but that he also would accept a sentence of life in prison for Holmes, who killed 12 and injured 70 others in the 2012 attack.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Opponents are already vowing to sue the government, in order to block new environmental rules from taking effect. The plan unveiled by President Barack Obama is aimed at dramatically cutting emissions from U.S. power plants. Obama warned that if nothing is done about climate change, it will threaten future generations. West Virginia's attorney general says the administration is on "very, very shaky" legal ground.
MANCHESTER, N.H. (AP) — Most of the crowded Republican presidential field has appeared on the same stage at a forum in New Hampshire. There were none of the usual debate fireworks. The candidates each fielded questions on issues including climate change and immigration. New York Gov. George Pataki said Republicans need to join together behind intelligent ideas rather than attempting to polarize the electorate.
