MINOT, N.D. (AP) — An animal hospital in Minot says money is pouring in from the community to help cover the medical bills of a cat that was abandoned after being shot in the face.
Suzanne Nostdahl, receptionist at the Pinkerton Animal Hospital, told the Minot Daily News (http://bit.ly/1IcdqP4 ) that several people made donations this week to help Precious the cat, including one woman who donated $1,000.
The cat was brought in earlier in the week after Minot resident Lorna Spencer found her abandoned near her home along with three kittens.
At the hospital, doctors found the cat was missing part of her tongue, her left jaw was shattered and that she had a bullet from a .22-caliber firearm lodged in the fatty tissue of her chest. As of Thursday, the cat was able to eat solid food.
Spencer said donations were sought because she didn't think she could cover the medical costs for treating the cat. She said she plans to give any extra donations she personally receives to the animal hospital to help other families pay for their pets' medical care.
She said she plans to keep the cat and give away her kittens.
Spencer reported the shooting to the Ward County Sheriff's Office but there were no witnesses.
