ELKO, Nev. (AP) — An official says firefighters in northeast Nevada stopped a wildfire that charred nearly 3.5 square miles of grassland and sage in less than a day.
U.S. Bureau of Land Management training specialist Mike Ellsworth said Thursday that no injuries were reported and no structures were damaged before the Boulder fire was contained in the remote Welches Creek area.
Ellsworth says federal, state and local hand crews had help from helicopters and aerial tankers battling the 2,224-acre fire northeast of the western Elko County town of Dunphy.
The fire was reported Wednesday. The cause was being investigated.
Ellsworth says crews expected to contain a 60-acre fire in the Sherman Peak area north of Elko by nightfall late Thursday.
No injuries were reported and no structures were threatened in that fire.
