HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Hundreds of firefighters are trying to tame a wildfire in Montana's Glacier National Park. The 5-square-mile blaze has closed portions of the park's main Going-to-the-Sun Road and crews are trying to keep it from spreading to populated areas. They should get a break. A cold front, bringing cooler temperatures, rain and possibly snow at high elevations, is on the way.

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Police investigating the movie theater shootings in Lafayette, Louisiana, are thanking people who are calling in tips about John Houser. Investigators are trying to determine what prompted him to open fire Thursday night, killing two people and hurting nine others before taking his own life. He appears to have been a man with a history of angry and erratic behavior.

MICANOPY, Fla. (AP) — Authorities say the body of a man who fired at a state trooper has been found along a north Florida highway. Interstate 75 near Micanopy was shut down in both directions for hours today as authorities searched for the suspect. The Highway Patrol tells the Gainesville Sun that the trooper who initially encountered the suspect was not injured.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — A fire at a hotel swimming pool that sent large plumes of black smoke high above the Las Vegas Strip appears to be under control. The blaze broke out around noon in an outside area on the 14th floor of The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas, setting pool cabanas and trees ablaze. A fire official says one person was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — President Barack Obama is on his first visit to Kenya as the U.S. chief executive. He was honored at a state dinner Saturday night in Nairobi. Earlier at a joint news conference with Kenya's president, Obama urged African nations to treat gays and lesbians equally under the law. Gay sex is a crime in Kenya punishable by up to 14 years in prison.
