LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Authorities say the gunman in last night's movie theater slayings in Louisiana was armed with a semi-automatic .40-caliber handgun and had one additional magazine. The police chief in Lafayette says John Houser opened fire and then apparently tried to leave the theater. He dropped a magazine in the lobby, reloaded and then returned to the theater room -- where he fired one shot, killing himself. Two women were killed and nine other people were wounded in the gunfire.

LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — A former local television host in Georgia says the man who killed two people in a Louisiana movie theater last night had appeared on his show numerous times in the early 1990s and advocated violence against people involved in abortions. Calvin Floyd, who hosted a morning call-in show in Columbus, Georgia (on WLTZ-TV) says John Houser also espoused other radical views, including his opposition to women in the workplace.

NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — President Barack Obama has opened a two-nation tour of Africa -- a visit that will be focused on deepening economic and security partnerships with the continent and its people. Obama landed in the Kenyan capital of Nairobi today. Obama's agenda for tomorrow includes co-hosting a U.S.-sponsored business summit and a meeting with Kenya's president. Obama meets Monday with Ethiopia's president and prime minister.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are on track for another losing week. They've been broadly lower in afternoon trading today. Disappointing quarterly results from several companies are weighing on the market -- and so are the concerns that China's economy is slowing. Health care and materials stocks are among the biggest decliners.

ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) — A Pennsylvania man faces charges of fleeing police and child endangerment after police say he led them on a seven-mile chase that reached speeds of more than 120 miles an hour -- with an 8-month-old baby in the vehicle. The Express-Times of Easton says Jesse Shaw was arrested early this morning. State police say Shaw told them he fled because his license was suspended and he didn't want to go back to jail. Police say he drove through a truck stop and drug store parking lot before speeding away, sometimes in the opposing lane of traffic and through a red light.
