BOISE, Idaho (AP) — A 4-year-old girl is being credited with helping save a family after seeing that their house in southwest Idaho was on fire.
Rosie Moran, of Boise, was out with her dad and sister when she ventured a little farther down the sidewalk on her bike, KTVB-TV reported Thursday (http://bit.ly/1OotbnP ). She sped back to report the fire, said her father, Sean Moran.
"I noticed there was black smoke," the father said. "I jogged up and followed Rosie and she took me to this house, and sure enough, I looked around the corner and the side of the house was all on fire. I was able to yell in, 'Hey, your house is on fire!'"
Moran said he helped fight the fire with a garden hose while Ernie Ortiz went to get his wife and daughter out of the house. They were in a room sharing the same wall as the flames.
Ortiz said he thinks oily rags may have spontaneously combusted in a garbage can on his deck.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the flames.
Afterward, they rewarded Rosie with a Junior Boise Fire Fighter sticker. Officials say the fire could have been much worse if it had been noticed five minutes later.
"You see this little girl right here? You saved her!" Ortiz told Rosie, referring to his daughter. "I want to thank you very much. She is a real hero."
