YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (AP) — Scientists are monitoring a new thermal feature near Mammoth Hot Springs that was edging up to Upper Terrace Drive.
The Cody Enterprise reports (http://bit.ly/1f9NSrS ) that National Park Service rangers roped off the road Wednesday after considerable heat was being generated under the road.
Scientists have been watching the area's thermal activity since May and measured a temperature as high as 152 degrees.
Park Service spokeswoman Traci Weaver says yellow caution tape has been hung to keep people from touching the area.
Park workers have begun constructing a barrier of logs separating the thermal feature from the pavement. Vehicle traffic is suspended on Upper Terrace Drive for several days.
