SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Salt Lake City man is accused of stabbing his roommate 20 times, including once so hard it left a piece of knife in the second man's skull.

The 25-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder. His roommate was found lying in the street with cuts on his face, head and scalp on July 7.

Investigators say they followed a blood trail to a nearby apartment. They say the man was inside the home and refused to answer the door.

Doctors report that the victim was stabbed about 20 times and that he had to undergo brain surgery to remove a piece of the knife that went into his skull.
