ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greece has a double dose of good news today. The European Central Bank decided to raise the amount of emergency liquidity available to Greek banks. And the country's creditors in the 19-country eurozone formally said bailout discussions could begin. The decision comes after the Greek Parliament's overnight passing of austerity measures. But it's subject to other parliamentary votes required in Europe.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are opening higher in the U.S. after several big companies reported better earnings. Citigroup, Intel, Netflix and eBay all rose in early trading after reporting results that beat analysts' forecasts. European markets also rose after Greece's parliament approved pension reforms, tax increases and other measures demanded by its creditors.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Fewer people are seeking unemployment benefits. The numbers fell last week as employers remain confident enough in the economy to hold onto their staffs. The Labor Department says the number of applications for weekly unemployment aid fell by 15,000 to 281,000.

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — President Barack Obama and Republican presidential candidate Chris Christie are both calling for changes today in the criminal justice system. In Camden, New Jersey, Christie will urge a rebuilding of trust between police and the communities they serve. He also wants to give non-violent drug offenders a better shot at rebuilding their lives. Obama, meanwhile, is visiting a federal prison in Oklahoma, and meeting separately there with law enforcement officials and non-violent drug offenders. Obama's been arguing this week for an alternative to long prison terms for people whose crimes, he says, don't fit the punishment.

NORWALK, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut woman has been charged with leaving her 4-month-old baby alone in her car twice yesterday -- for an hour in the morning and a half-hour in the afternoon -- while she went to the gym. Norwalk police responded to a parking garage for reports of a crying baby and found the infant in a car with the windows up. They say the woman returned as fire officials were getting into the car. She's charged with risk of injury to a minor leaving an unattended child in the car.
