TACOMA, Wash. (AP) — The father-in-law of Susan Powell, the West Valley City woman disappeared six years ago, has been found guilty in Washington state of possessing child pornography. Jurors returned a unanimous verdict against Steven Powell yesterday afternoon in Tacoma. Powell is the father of Josh Powell, who killed his two sons and himself in 2012 while under investigation for his wife's 2009 disappearance.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The family of a Salt Lake City man who died at Lake Powell says in a new lawsuit that he was killed by electrically charged water near a worn marina outlet. The Deseret News reports that the parents of 22-year-old Alec McQueen yesterday sued Aramark Corporation, the company that operates Bullfrog Marina. A spokesman for Aramark declined to comment on the suit.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — If you wanted to see the Dalai Lama of Tibet's appearance at the University of Utah on October 18 you are out of luck -- tickets for the event sold out in 15 minutes. While he's in town, the Dalai Lama will also deliver the keynote address at the Parliament of the World's Religions meeting at the Salt Palace Convention Center on October 17.
GRANTS PASS, Ore. (AP) — The U.S. Forest Service is taking possession of U.S. Coast Guard planes that are being converted to drop retardant on wildfires. The first of the planes is based in California and ready to start flying as far as 500 miles to drop retardant on a wildfire .Six more are coming online through 2019 and will be based around the West.
