SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Police say a skydiver is in critical condition after his parachute folded and caused him to fall 200 feet to the ground in Tooele yesterday afternoon. KUTV-TV reports that 20-year-old Trevor Sandberg was taken to the University of Utah by medical helicopter.
TAYLORSVILLE, Utah (AP) — Police say a man trying to elude capture in a stolen vehicle crashed into a utility pole in Taylorsville, knocking out power for hundreds of people. KSL-TV reports police say Casey Ortez sped off during a traffic stop. Ortez was taken to a hospital in serious condition.
ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah (AP) — Authorities have recovered the body of a man who fell while hiking inside Zion National Park. Park officials say search and rescue teams reached the 24-year-old Las Vegas man's body yesterday. They say he was hiking with three others in Heaps Canyon late Saturday when he fell 100 feet.
ZION NATIONAL PARK, Utah (AP) — Officials say a section of a popular trail in southern Utah's Zion National Park is closed because of a wildfire. The park says the lightning-caused fire has burned most of the top of Cathedral Mountain but isn't threatening anything but part of the West Rim Trail had to be blocked off because of falling debris from the fire.
