PAROWAN, Utah (AP) — Authorities say the suspect shot by an officer in Parowan has died.
The Spectrum reports (http://bit.ly/1Cutuw8 ) the Parowan Police Department said in a news release Friday that they aren't yet releasing the name of the deceased man.
Authorities say an officer responded to a home after a report of a man hitting a child Thursday night.
The news release states that the officer encountered a male suspect in the driveway. The suspect allegedly pointed a handgun at the officer while approaching him. The officer fired two shots at the suspect, striking him both times.
The suspect died despite efforts from medical staff and the officer.
Neighbors also reported seeing the man hitting his son and pulling out a gun. Shane Neyome described the man as a "nice guy."
