BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho Attorney General's office has released new manuals on Idaho's public records and open meetings laws to reflect changes made during the legislative session earlier this year.

Previously, Idaho's public records statutes and open meetings laws were scattered throughout the state's legal code. But lawmakers agreed earlier this year to move those rules to a new title of the Idaho Code, called "Transparent and Ethical Government." They also increased the fines for those who violate public meeting rules.

Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden said in a prepared statement that a transparent government is essential to a free and democratic society. The manuals summarize and explain the open meeting, public record and ethics laws for Idaho residents.

The revised manuals are published on the Idaho Attorney General's website.
