MARSING, Idaho (AP) — A 20-year-old Caldwell man has drowned in the Snake River near Marsing Island Park.

KTVB-TV reports (http://is.gd/MjcANX ) that Owyhee County sheriff's deputies had been searching for Darius Cheriji since around 4 p.m. Monday. His body was pulled from the river later that evening.

Officials say Cheriji and his sister were out swimming though neither knew how to swim very well. When the pair ended up in a hole — a sudden drop-off into a deeper portion of the river — their father swam out to get them. The father was able to retrieve his daughter, but could not get Cheriji.
