MARYVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — There've been no reports of fatalities after a CSX train carrying a flammable toxic substance derailed and caught fire in eastern Tennessee. But several police officers had to be decontaminated. Authorities say some 5,000 Blount County residents within a one-mile radius of the derailment are being evacuated. A high school in Maryville has been set up for evacuees.
MARICOPA, Ariz. (AP) — Authorities in Arizona have found two bodies they believe are a Phoenix-area couple who've been missing for more than a week. And a suspect is in custody. Authorities say Mike and Tina Careccia haven't been seen since they drove away from their Maricopa home on June 22. Their abandoned car was found a half-mile away, covered in dirt. Police say today that they've found the bodies of a man and woman on property in Maricopa. And a man who lives on that property is in custody.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The government releases jobless figures this morning, and experts are predicting that those numbers will show hiring at a strong pace in June. Economists surveyed by the data firm FactSet say employers likely added 233,000 jobs in June and that the jobless rate dipped to 5.4 percent from 5.5 percent in May.
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A Philippine coast guard official says the captain and some of the crew of a capsized ferry are in custody while the incident is being investigated. At least 36 people are dead and 26 others are missing after passengers say the ferry suddenly rose from the waters, flipped over and began to sink. About 127 people were rescued.
RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — Seven people have now been attacked by sharks off North Carolina's coast this summer. Yesterday, a 68-year-old man was bitten several times while in waist-deep water off North Carolina's Outer Banks. He's in fair condition with wounds to his ribcage, lower leg, hip and both hands. The attack happened around noon on a beach on Ocracoke Island. Witnesses say the shark was about seven feet long.
