TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Conservative activists are calling for the College of Southern Idaho to end its refugee program following concerns over an expected influx of Syrian refugees. The Times-News reports that the activists fear some of the refugees could be radical Muslims. Resettlement officials say all refugees undergo extensive background checks.
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — Latah County Commissioners have updated their employee handbook to ban discrimination against a person because of the sexual orientation or gender identity. The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports 12 cities in Idaho have passed their own local ordinance, including Boise, Coeur d'Alene and Idaho Falls. Meanwhile, 22 states have passed have passed some form of anti-discrimination laws.
MOSCOW, Idaho (AP) — A Moscow woman faces up to eight years in prison after being sentenced for her part in the death of a man who had been under her care. The Moscow-Pullman Daily News reports prosecutors say 23-year-old Lindsey Winter allowed 67-year-old Lee Pohrman to starve to death in her home.
COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say nearly all of the estimated 4 million bees released along the Washington-Idaho border in a tipped tractor will die after being separated from their hives. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports that emergency crews used foam to subdue the bees after the crash on Sunday. Loaders were then used to scoop up the limp bees and put them in dump trucks.
