SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of obstructing justice, accepting improper gifts such as beach vacations, and other charges. The 57-year-old Republican and his GOP successor John Swallow were arrested last year after prosecutors say they traded favors with businessmen in trouble with regulators during their combined 13 years running the state attorney general's office.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Contact lens manufacturers say a hotly contested Utah law banning minimum prices takes direct aim at their business model and they'll lose money if it stays on the books. Alcon Laboratories, Johnson & Johnson and Bausch & Lomb are fighting back after a federal appeals court allowed the law to go into effect earlier this month. Supporters say the newly enacted legislation banning price fixing is a legitimate antitrust measure.
STANSBURY ISLAND, Utah (AP) — Fire crews have contained a small wildfire that broke out overnight on Stansbury Island in the Great Salt Lake. A Federal Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman says crews have contained the spread of the 38-acre fire. Investigators believe that fire may have been human caused.
DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT, Colo. (AP) — A wildfire sparked by lightning has burned just under 1 square mile in Dinosaur National Monument in northwestern Colorado. Authorities say the fire is burning in grass, brush and Ponderosa pine trees in a remote part of the monument. The fire is in the Colorado portion of the 328-square-mile monument, which straddles the Utah-Colorado border.
