CONSTABLE, N.Y. (AP) — New York State Police say a trooper shot a prison escapee today after spotting him walking down a road just a couple miles from the Canadian border. David Sweat, one of the two convicted killers who escaped three weeks ago, was captured in the town of Constable and transported to a hospital. The other inmate, Richard Matt, was shot and killed Friday.
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The African-American church in Charleston, South Carolina, where nine people were killed is again remembering one of the victims. A funeral was held today for DePayne Middelton-Doctor at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church. It came hours after Vice President Joe Biden made a surprise appearance at morning worship services.
CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (AP) — The catastrophic failure of an unmanned SpaceX rocket carrying supplies to the International Space Station today is a severe blow to NASA. It's the third cargo mission to fail in eight months. The rocket broke apart about 2½ minutes into the flight from Cape Canaveral, Florida. More than 5,200 pounds of space station cargo were on board.
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Banks in Greece will remain closed and restrictions are being imposed on transactions. The move comes after the European Central Bank refused to increase the amount of emergency liquidity available to Greek banks. Fearing impending fuel shortages, Greek drivers are flooding gas stations. But Greece's largest refiner says there are enough reserves.
CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The average price of regular gasoline in the United States is down. The Lundberg Survey says it dropped 2 cents over the past two weeks to $2.85 a gallon. Industry analyst Trilby Lundberg says the decline comes amid a 42-cent jump recorded over the previous nine weeks. The average national price for midgrade gas was $3.05, with premium going for $3.23.
