MALONE, N.Y. (AP) — One of the convicted killers who broke out of a New York prison on June 6 has been killed in a gunfight about 30 miles from the prison. Richard Matt had been serving time for killing and dismembering an employer. Hundreds of officers are now scouring the area for the second convict, David Sweat. Resources moved to the area also include floodlights.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — President Barack Obama says God's grace has allowed the nation to see its blindness through last week's church massacre in Charleston, South Carolina. In a eulogy for the church's pastor, Obama said Americans have the chance to be their best selves. Obama called for removing the Confederate flag from public places, but said God expects even more of Americans.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops Is calling today's Supreme Court ruling recognizing same-sex marriage "profoundly immoral and unjust." Writing for the majority, Justice Anthony Kennedy said the 14th Amendment to the Constitution requires states to allow same-sex couples. Many lined up immediately to obtain marriage licenses.

BEIRUT (AP) — According to reports from the strategic Syrian border town of Kobani, at least 120 civilians, including women and children, have been killed in a new offensive by the Islamic State group. Meanwhile, there have been terrorist attacks across three continents, including a shooting at a Tunisian beach resort, an attack on a U.S.-owned factory in France and a suicide bombing at a Shiite mosque in Kuwait.

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Saying austerity measures sought by the European union are unbearable, Greece's prime minister has called for a referendum next month on bailout talks. Finance ministers from the 19-member eurozone are due to meet in Brussels on Saturday. Greece will very soon run out of cash, default on its debt mountain and possibly crash out of the Eurozone.
