SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new report says the Utah attorney general's office needs to be more transparent and offer whistleblower employees a way to anonymously report any wrongdoing in the office. The legislative audit released today comes as two former Utah attorneys general face charges of obstruction of justice and accepting improper gifts.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — Public records obtained by The Associated Press show investigators had a hard time believing a Utah man didn't know his wife killed six of their babies and stored them in their garage. Police concluded that Darren West was high on drugs and did not realize what his wife, Megan Huntsman, had done. Huntsman has been sentenced to life in prison.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah's liquor board has approved more flexible rules for granting event permits, a year after receiving intense criticism when board members considered denying a permit to serve beer at an annual Oktoberfest celebration. Officials decided that events with alcohol don't have to be hosted by a nonprofit or charitable organization, removing the provision that almost scuttled a ski resort's German-themed festival.
PROVO, Utah (AP) — A judge has dismissed Gov. Gary Herbert from serving on a jury. Herbert was one of 35 potential jurors called for a drunken driving case morning in a Provo court. Herbert told reporters that he was honored to do his civic duty and doesn't know exactly why he wasn't selected for the jury.
