KINGSTON, Jamaica (AP) — Jamaican authorities say three people in a southern parish have pleaded guilty to lottery scam offenses after they were detained with "lead lists" containing identity information about targets living abroad.
Last week, two other residents of St. Elizabeth parish pleaded guilty to similar offenses after they were found to have lists with U.S. citizens' Social Security numbers and birth dates.
Police said Monday that sentencing is scheduled for later this month.
Island authorities have lately been having success capturing suspects nearly a decade after the transnational lottery scam crime started flourishing on the island.
The government has cracked down with laws that target such frauds, identity theft and dishonest use of technology for accessing financial accounts.
Earlier this year, Jamaica extradited its first lottery scam suspect to the U.S.
