CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — The Charleston, South Carolina, church where nine black people were killed when a white man allegedly opened fire during a Bible study will reopen tomorrow. A group of congregation members met today in the room where the shootings took place on Wednesday night. The alleged gunman, 21-year-old Dylann Roof, is jailed, facing murder charges.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — There are growing calls for the removal of a Confederate flag from the grounds of the South Carolina Statehouse. A Republican state legislator says he'll introduce a bill in December to move the flag and pole to a state military museum. A large crowd rallied in Columbia today to protest the presence of the flag, calling it a symbol of hatred, not heritage.
DOS PALOS, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say three farmworkers were killed and five others hospitalized after a van overturned on a Central California highway. A Highway Patrol spokesman says the victims were returning from a day of working in the fields when the van drifted off the roadway and the driver overcorrected, causing a rollover. An investigation is underway.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Federal Election Commission is suing a Utah businessman, saying he made $170,000 in illegal campaign contributions to Sens. Harry Reid of Nevada and Mike Lee of Utah and former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff in 2009 and 2010. The lawsuit says Jeremy Johnson gave money to friends, family members and others to make "straw donations" to the three.
