HIGHLAND, Utah (AP) — An emergency phone will be installed at the Tibble Fork parking lot after emergency situation responses were delayed due to people not having phone service.
The Daily Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1ChHnbG) Lone Peak Public Safety District board members on Thursday approved an agreement between the National Forest Service and Lone Peak Fire and Rescue to allow firefighters to install the phone.
In 2014, a BYU student drowned in a creek near the Tibble Fork Reservoir. Bystanders had to drive down the canyon to get cell service while others tried to rescue her.
On Wednesday night, a similar situation left a motorcyclist who crashed on the road to the reservoir waiting for help with a nearly severed leg.
Fire Chief Brad Freeman says the emergency phone will help save lives.
