BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — State Superintendent of Education John White has received a favorable review from Louisiana's top school board.
White, in a message on Twitter, said his overall rating from the state Board of Elementary and Secondary Education was 3.3 out of 4.
The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/1fhRwAg ) the announcement Wednesday followed a 20-minute closed-door session of the board.
The rating puts White in the effective/proficient category that is the second-highest of four categories — the third year he's gotten such a classification.
White's been superintendent since early 2012. He is paid $275,000 per year, which will remain unchanged.
The positive rating comes in a year marked by heavy controversy, including months of arguments over Louisiana's use of Common Core and feuds between White and Gov. Bobby Jindal over the education standards.
