Man killed by South Lake Tahoe officer was from Sacramento

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — The man shot and killed by a South Lake Tahoe police officer at a motel has been identified by authorities as someone they had recently arrested.

The Sacramento Bee reports (http://bit.ly/1dK5FVP ) police identified the man as 22-year-old Sacramento resident, Kris Jackson.

Police responded to a 911 call Monday morning reporting screaming and crying from one of the rooms at Tahoe Hacienda Inn. An officer shot and wounded a man reported to be in his 20s. The man died after being taken to Barton Memorial Hospital.

South Lake Tahoe police chief Brian Uhler says few details about the incident have been released.

Jackson was arrested June 1 on suspicion of possessing cocaine and drug paraphernalia.

The officer who shot Jackson has been placed on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted.
