CASTLETON, Vt. (AP) — Officials at a state college in western Vermont are trying to rebrand it as a university.
The Rutland Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1FU63aQ ) administrators from Castleton State College are petitioning Thursday in front of Vermont State Colleges' long-range planning committee to change the school's name to Castleton University.
CSC officials say the change is "aspirational" and reflects what they've been striving to become for over a decade. They want to remove "State" from its name so prospective students don't see it as large or impersonal. Officials say the title doesn't reflect the school's small enrollment and low teacher-student ratios.
Officials have said they hope for a final decision from the trustees in July.
The college now offers eight graduate degree programs, and is preparing to roll out a doctoral program.
