RENO, Nev. (AP) — The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a flash flood watch in advance of thunderstorms moving into the Sierra Nevada.

The watch is in effect Wednesday morning through Wednesday evening for the area surrounding Lake Tahoe and much of the Sierra's eastern front, including Reno and Carson City.

The watch extends from the California-Nevada line near Yosemite National Park to as far north as Susanville, California. To the east it includes Pyramid Lake, Fernley, Fallon, Lovelock, Hawthorne, Yerington and Smith Valley.

The tropical moisture plume moving over the western Great Basin is expected to produce widespread showers and a few thunderstorms that could produce heavy rain and lead to localized flash flooding.

The weather service says the rain should taper off Wednesday evening.
