EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — The Eugene School District will drop its public records lawsuit against The Register-Guard under a settlement between the district and the newspaper.
The Register-Guard reports (http://bit.ly/1HYl64J ) that the newspaper had filed a request with the district for public records regarding Superintendent Sheldon Berman's performance.
After the district denied the request, the Lane County District Attorney's Office ordered the school district to release a number of the records. In response, the school district sued the newspaper seeking to overturn the order.
Under the settlement completed Monday and each side will be responsible for its own costs and attorney fees.
Also, the newspaper will return a number of unpublished documents that the district's lawyer inadvertently sent to the newspaper in April.
School board Chairman Jim Torrey says the board is glad the suit was resolved.
