LAS VEGAS (AP) — Authorities in Las Vegas aired findings of an investigation of the March 2014 shooting death of a 38-year-old man in the backyard of an abandoned North Las Vegas home, amid word that the officer who was involved quit the police force.
North Las Vegas police Officer Aaron Patty says Raymond Lopez resigned in January, after a little more than six years on the job.
Lopez's resignation came two months after the family of the slain man, David Robinson, filed a federal lawsuit against North Las Vegas police and Lopez.
Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson has made a preliminary ruling clearing Lopez in the shooting.
Lopez told detectives he shot Robinson after thinking he saw a knife in Robinson's hand.
Officers later reported finding a knife in Robinson's back pocket.
