BERLIN (AP) — Swiss police say that a woman and her 5-year-old daughter have drowned in central Switzerland when their home was flooded following severe thunderstorms.
Police in Lucerne said Monday that the family was in the basement of the home in the small town of Dierikon when the building was suddenly flooded on Sunday night.
Major Swiss cities including Zurich, Bern and Lucerne were also affected, with streets flooded and firefighters called out to empty flooded basements.
