FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. (AP) — Northern Arizona University is planning to increase its on-campus housing as freshmen enrollment continues to boom.
The Arizona Daily Sun reports (http://bit.ly/1GoGwwY ) the Arizona Board of Regents approved the university's development plan Thursday, which included the construction of an apartment-style residence hall.
The project is being called the Runke Drive Student Apartments. The project will add 620 beds on campus for upperclassmen because most of the university's housing has been reserved for freshmen, who are guaranteed it if they want it.
Last fall, the university had a record of nearly 5,000 freshmen. The campus contains enough university-owned housing for little more than 7,100 students.
The new project will include a fitness center, computer lab, among other amenities and will provide enough parking for 706 vehicles.
