VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (AP) — A Virginia Beach mother who was charged with trying to kill her two children by poisoning their food has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.
The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/1KP0G4a ) that Judge Les Lilley on Thursday ordered 27-year-old Lorita Melisa Aiken to the state mental-health system.
The newspaper says prosecutors claimed Aiken mixed crushed pills into her two children's applesauce and ice cream in November 2013. Her husband returned home to find them and Aiken unresponsive.
Aiken was charged with two counts of attempted murder, two counts of poisoning and two counts of altering food, drink or drugs.
