PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A Maine woman has been sentenced to a month in prison for filling a bottle of fish oil capsules with anti-seizure medication and stool softeners and returning it to the store for a refund.
Sixty-one-year-old Kathy Jordan, of Westbrook, was sentenced Thursday in federal court.
Prosecutors say Jordan purchased the fish oil capsules from a pharmacy near her home before returning the bottle the following day. The pharmacy then resold the bottle a week later. Prosecutors say a customer returned the bottle to the pharmacist after opening it and discovering that it contained three types of pills.
U.S. Food and Drug Administration investigators determined the bottle contained 10 fish oil capsules, 70 phenytoin capsules and several stool softener pills.
Jordan also faces one year of supervised release.
