FBI: Knife attack plot...Executed after 3 decades...Rappers, studio sued

BOSTON (AP) — The FBI says the man who was shot and killed by officers and agents in Boston Tuesday had purchased knives, and was talking about an imminent attack on "boys in blue." In a complaint against a man who was arrested later in the day, the FBI says Usaama Rahim had plotted with that man for at least a week to attack police. Authorities say a task force of Boston police and FBI agents confronted Rahim and fatally shot him when he refused to drop a knife. The second man faces a charge of trying to block the investigation of Rahim.

HUNTSVILLE, Texas (AP) — He's the oldest of the 526 Texas prisoners put to death since the state resumed carrying out capital punishment in 1982. A 67-year-old man convicted of killing four men in 1983 has been given a lethal injection. Speaking while on the death gurney, Lester Bower Jr. said much that has been written about his case is not true, but that it was time to move on.

FAIRFAX, Va. (AP) — Former Rhode Island Gov. Lincoln Chafee is running for president. He announced his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination Wednesday in Virginia. He's a former Republican who became an independent and then joined the Democratic Party two years ago. Beside Hillary Rodham Clinton -- Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders and former Maryland Gov. Martin O'Malley are also seeking the nomination.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The economy has been growing at a moderate pace in most regions of the country over the past couple of months. That's according to the Federal Reserve's latest survey of business conditions. It found that consumers boosted spending at retailers and at auto dealers. And manufacturing activity either held steady or increased, except in the energy industry.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A major studio and some of the biggest names in rap music are named in a lawsuit filed by the widow of a man who died after he was run over by a pickup truck driven by former rap music executive Marion "Suge" Knight. Named in the suit are Universal Studios, Knight and rappers Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. The suit alleges Universal was negligent by continuing filming in Compton, California, after Dre warned the production to keep Knight away.
