LAS VEGAS (AP) — Nevada state courts are adding a new judicial district to cover rural Lander, Mineral and Pershing counties.
The 11th Judicial District will come into being July 1, under a measure passed by the state Legislature and signed last week by Gov. Brian Sandoval.
The new district was created by removing Pershing and Lander counties from the Sixth Judicial District and Mineral County from the Fifth.
Judge Jim Shirley of Lovelock will hear 11th District cases.
Nevada Supreme Court Chief Justice James Hardesty says the move will reduce travel time for judges and help several districts manage caseloads better around the state.
It'll leave Judge Michael Montero hearing Sixth District cases from Humboldt County.
Judges Robert Lane and Kimberly Wanker will still hear Fifth District cases from Esmeralda and Nye counties.
