CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) — A wide-ranging gun bill expanding the definition of justifiable homicide and barring people with extended protection orders from owning a firearm has been signed into law.
Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval signed SB175 on Tuesday. The measure passed out of the Assembly and Senate on mostly party-line votes, with Democrats opposing.
The measure expands the definition of justifiable homicide to include defending an occupied vehicle, and repeals a requirement in Clark County for gun owners to register handguns within several days of obtaining the firearm.
It also prohibits gun ownership for anyone convicted of a misdemeanor domestic violence crime or who has an active temporary protective order filed by a court.
The bill also expands concealed gun permit reciprocity with other states that require training or classes before issuing a permit.
