LAS VEGAS (AP) — B.B. King drew a 45-second standing ovation amid reflections and remembrances about his life and legacy at a memorial for more than 350 family and friends in Las Vegas. Eight of the blues legend's 11 adult children and more than 10 of his 35 grandchildren spoke during an intimate two-hour Saturday service marked more by laughter than sadness. As granddaughter Landra Williams said, to everyone else King was a legend. To his family, he was love. Rock guitarists Carlos Santana and Richie Sambora attended.
SPARKS, Nev. (AP) — Two people were killed in a head-on collision involving a wrong-way driver early yesterday on Interstate 80 in Sparks. The Nevada Highway Patrol says a pickup driven by a man with a male passenger was heading westbound in the eastbound lanes when it struck a car driven by a man with an adult female passenger near the Sparks Boulevard exit shortly after 3 a.m. The pickup driver and car passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, while the other two were taken to the hospital with critical life-threatening injuries.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — An Ely State Prison inmate serving time for burglary has died after a two-month stay at a Las Vegas hospital. The Nevada Department of Corrections says 47-year-old Ronald Daniels died Friday at University Medical Center. Daniels, who was serving a two- to eight-year sentence for a Clark County burglary conviction, was taken to the hospital on March 19 with undisclosed health problems. An autopsy will be performed to pinpoint his cause of death.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — A dispute at a Las Vegas apartment complex has left a woman dead and a 21-year-old man in jail on suspicion of murder. Police say 21-year-old Nathanael Martinez was arrested after the woman's body was found inside his apartment Thursday evening. Investigators say the dispute occurred after Martinez invited the woman to his home. He was booked into the Clark County jail on one count of open murder.
