PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Portland Community College has severed ties with its president Jeremy Brown, with the school's board approving a $300,000 severance package.

The Oregonian reports (http://bit.ly/1Ba8fKl ) that the board for Oregon's largest college voted 7-0 Monday to approve the severance deal and appoint Executive Vice President Cylvia Kelly as acting president.

The college's board chair Deanna Palm says the deal was a mutual parting of ways and allows both Brown and the school to pursue different opportunities. She says Brown has made many improvements to the school during his tenure.

Brown was not present at the board meeting.
