CALDWELL, Idaho (AP) — A man who admitted he beat his girlfriend to death has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Two additional charges were dropped against 39-year-old Alfredo Martinez in exchange for his plea today. Martinez told police last summer he hit Selena Thomas with a hammer and shoved her into a dresser when she stepped toward him.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Farmers and ranchers in the West's worst-hit drought regions will receive an additional $21 million to help them save water and soil despite the long dry spell. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack announced the aid today. The assistance will go to areas of the West that are rated in the highest categories of drought, including parts of Idaho.
SANDPOINT, Idaho (AP) — A judge is reviewing Idaho Game and Fish's decision to suspend the license of a Cocolalla-based wolf exhibition company that allowed customers to touch the animals. The Bonner County Daily Bee reports lawyers for Wolf People filed a challenge to the decision in late March. Attorney Art Bistline said the contact was allowed as long as an employee supervised.
