WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is expressing condolences to the families of six Marines and two Nepalese army soldiers who were in a helicopter that crashed during a relief mission in an earthquake-ravaged region of Nepal.

Obama says the Marines "represent a truth that guides our work around the world: When our friends are in need, America helps."

Nepalese rescuers on Friday found three bodies near the wreckage of the Marine helicopter. The craft had disappeared earlier this week, and officials said it was unlikely there were any survivors from the crash.

Obama addressed the crash victims during remarks at the National Peace Officers' Memorial Service outside the U.S. Capitol.
