SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Authorities in Puerto Rico say a 29-year-old university professor from Poland has drowned at a beach along the island's north coast.

The victim was identified as Lukasz Adam Koscielski. Police say he was caught in a strong current Saturday morning at the popular Guajataca beach in the town of Isabela.

Koscielski was a chemistry professor at the University of Puerto Rico in Cayey and had been living in Puerto Rico for two years. Police said his mother lives in Chicago.

Guajataca beach is known for its strong currents.
