NORTH LAS VEGAS, Nev. (AP) — A man has been arrested on suspicion of stealing an airplane from the North Las Vegas Airport and taking it for an unauthorized flight over the Las Vegas area.

North Las Vegas Officer Aaron Patty says police were called to the airport to investigate a report of a stolen plane shortly after midnight Friday.

He says the man was eventually talked into landing the twin-engine plane at the airport early Saturday, then booked into jail.

Police say the man is a former student pilot who trained at the airport, but declined to identify him or the charge he faces.

A McCarran International Airport spokesman told KSNV-TV of Las Vegas that the flight was monitored by air traffic controllers for more than an hour.
