SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A pregnant mother of two who was accidentally shot in the face by a Massachusetts police officer investigating a possible break-in has sued the officer, the police department and the town for $1.5 million.
The Republican newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1bZginx ) that Britteney Miles filed the lawsuit in federal court Wednesday.
Officials say Officer Danielle Petrangelo's gun accidentally fired after Miles opened her front door for police while holding her young daughter in 2012. Miles was shot in the face and chin. Her lawyer says she's still recovering, and a doctor told her she may need a prosthetic jaw.
Petrangelo was cleared of any criminal wrongdoing and left the police department. Officials have never disclosed the circumstances of her departure.
Messages seeking comment were left for town and police officials.
