NORWOOD, N.J. (AP) — State wildlife officials say a second aggressive coyote shot and killed by police last week in a northern New Jersey town did not have rabies.
The female coyote was shot Thursday by police in Norwood, but ran off that day. Its body was then found in a trap late Sunday morning.
The shooting came just days after another coyote apparently attacked a resident in that Bergen County community. The first coyote was killed by a state wildlife officer and tested positive for rabies.
Authorities have urged parents to keep their children and small pets inside.
The state veterinarian has recommended that residents vaccinate their pets and avoid contact with stray and wild animals.
