ELKO, Nev. (AP) — A 48-year-old Elko man has pleaded not guilty to felony child abuse charges in the severe beating of a 5-year-old girl in January.
The Elko Daily Free Press reports (http://tinyurl.com/nl94qk7 ) Danny Miller Jr. entered his plea Monday in district court in Elko. He's scheduled to go to trial in late August.
Miller was arrested Jan. 16 after police say the girl suffered fractures to her skull, neck and jaw.
Miller told investigators the girl had refused to eat her dinner and threw herself off a barstool onto the floor. But a doctor testified at last month's preliminary hearing the injuries were consistent with abusive head trauma.
Miller faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted of the most serious charge, abuse or neglect of a child with substantial bodily harm.
