BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho is just weeks away from getting a new title: oil- and gas-producing state. Lawmakers and regulators for the last four years have been trying to prepare and earlier this year approved a bevy of laws and rules to keep up with the nascent industry made possible in Idaho with new technologies.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Energy Department has awarded grants to scientists in five western states to develop research for a national lab aimed at tapping hard-to-get-to geothermal energy they say someday could provide enough power to supply 100 million homes. The energy undersecretary for science announced research teams in Nevada, California, Idaho, Oregon and Utah also will share the $2 million for the first phase of the project.
COEUR D' ALENE, Idaho (AP) — The lone survivor of an ATV crash that killed two people last week didn't sustain any injuries as a result of the 500-foot fall or her six days in the wilderness, according to her veterinarian. The Coeur d'Alene Press reports Daisy the dachshund was found in a small hole about 800 feet from the top of the Bernard Overlook.
HELENA, Mont. (AP) — An appeals court has denied a petition by Yellowstone Club co-founder Tim Blixseth to be released from custody while the court reviews a Montana judge's decision to hold him in contempt for failing to explain how he spent $13.8 million in proceeds from selling a resort property in Mexico.
