KATHMANDU, Nepal (AP) — The death toll from the massive earthquake that struck the Himalayan region of South Asia on Saturday is climbing. Nepal authorities now say at least 3,200 people have died in that country alone. And that doesn't include the 18 people believed to have been killed in an associated avalanche on Mount Everest. Another 61 people died in other countries.
DAUPHIN ISLAND, Ala. (AP) — There's no word yet on the fate of five people who are believed missing in Alabama waters after a powerful storm capsized several sailboats participating in a regatta near Mobile Bay on Saturday. Coast Guard officials say two bodies have been found and boats and airplanes are searching for the others.
BALTIMORE (AP) — A funeral will be held Monday for Freddie Gray. He's the 25-year-old black man who died a week ago after sustaining serious injuries while in the custody of Baltimore police. A wake was held Sunday at local funeral home. Gray was also remembered at a church service earlier in the day. The pastor of the church says Gray's family doesn't want any more violence.
NEW YORK (AP) — Secretary of State John Kerry and his Iranian counterpart will meet in New York on Monday. It's their first face-to-face meeting since they laid out the framework for a nuclear deal earlier this month. It comes as negotiators try to complete a comprehensive agreement by the end of June.. Both men are participating in a non-proliferation conference at the United Nations.
NEW YORK (AP) — At least six writers are withdrawing from next month's PEN American gala in New York, citing objections to the literary and human rights organization's honoring the French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. PEN says the writers are upset by its portrayals of Muslims and "the disenfranchised generally." An attack at the magazine's Paris offices in January killed 12 people.
