WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says U.S. drone strikes against al-Qaeda targets in Pakistan a few months ago killed two Americans who had leadership roles with the terror network. But he says they also inadvertently killed two hostages being held by the group, an American and an Italian. Obama today took full responsibility for the tragedy that he blames on the "fog of war."
WASHINGTON (AP) — A group of U.S. lawmakers are urging Japan's prime minister "to formally reaffirm and validate" apologies made by his predecessors for Tokyo's wartime aggression. WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama says he's willing to pursue international trade deals even if they're unpopular with Democrats. But he's trying to assure party activists and donors that his trade policies will protect U.S. jobs and environmental rules. He spoke today at a gathering of Organizing for Action, a group that grew from his presidential campaign organization.
DETROIT (AP) — Ford is laying off 700 workers at a Michigan assembly plant. The automaker says it's because of slow sales of the small cars and hybrids made at the Wayne plant. The plant will move from three shifts to two starting June 22. Ford expects most of the workers to find jobs at other Ford plants. Low gas prices have hurt sales of the Ford Focus and C-Max hybrids made at the plant.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams of Ohio is recalling all of its products after listeria was found in a sample of its frozen treats. Texas-based Blue Bell Creameries took similar action on Monday. Blue Bell's ice cream was linked to 10 listeria illnesses, including three deaths. The company now says it'll close facilities in Texas, Oklahoma and Alabama for intensive cleaning.
