SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Authorities are accusing a Utah chiropractor of charging people thousands of dollars for a phony weight loss scheme that he said required no exercise.
State officials said Thursday that Michael Kunzler is charged with 11 counts of felony communications fraud, forgery and exploitation of a vulnerable adult.
Kunzler's attorney, Mark Moffat, says his client adamantly denies the accusations. Moffat says the full set of facts will show there was nothing fraudulent about Kunzler's weight loss program.
Prosecutors say the 46-year-old Kunzler advertised a "Rebalance Weight Loss" clinic that used a special and rare machine. He told senior citizen clients they didn't need to exercise. Authorities say Kunzler refused to return the money when they complained.
State officials have petitioned to revoke Kunzler's chiropractic license.
Kunzler is scheduled to make his first court appearance Monday.
