NEW YORK (AP) — A New York jury deliberating at the trial of a man accused of kidnapping and killing 6-year-old Etan Patz (AY'-tahn payts) in 1979 has asked to hear hours of testimony from two federal agents who investigated another suspect.
Former Assistant U.S. Attorney Stuart GraBois (GRAB'-wah) and former FBI Agent Mary Galligan testified for Pedro Hernandez's defense. They spoke of their probe into longtime suspect Jose Ramos, who was never charged.
Hernandez says he choked Etan in a convenience store basement after luring him there with the promise of a soda.
Hernandez's lawyer says the confession was imaginary and his client is mentally ill, and that Ramos is the real killer. Prosecutors say the confession is sound.
Jurors have been deliberating since April 15. They also asked to use computer programs to help organize their thoughts.
